Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native was born and raised in the city. Pam is her mom. She was an old backup singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her the job of curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved in to the historic landmark. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto with the children's choir, then after a couple of years, she joined the adult group. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially limited "I had solos singing in churches and a person wanted me to join a gospel label before I had turned eleven, however I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition that was open to kids in cities. It gave me the opportunity to perform Accept What God Allows on It's Showtime Apollo. The audience was extremely accommodating." When she was 13 years old, she sang alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan aged 15 at the time, signed her first contract with Jive Records. She was signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album but this album did not see release. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was the producer for several tracks from the album she released as her first. For instance "Backstabbers" was a viral track written by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
